In the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), the perspectives of employees and CEOs are traversing different paths, according to research by AI company Avanade. The study delves into the sentiments surrounding AI across 3,000 businesses, uncovering a notable contrast in outlook. Surprisingly, employees seem unfazed by the rise of AI, with 64% expressing confidence that it will either maintain or increase the number of human roles in their organizations in the coming year. Some even anticipate a growth in company headcount by up to 9% due to AI integration.
Despite this, CEOs do not connect with this same feeling. About forty-one per cent of chief executives predict that AI tools will become capable of carrying out a large number of worker’s jobs. As a consequence, there will be a smaller demand for some skills and less need to employ workers. The study pointed out the intriguing aspect of this data and the fact that many employees do not believe that AI will take away human positions. However, they foresee possible growth in numbers. This research also provides insight into the employee’s positive perception towards AI and that 95% of the employees believe that it will have a good effect on their work. On the other hand, few companies have put in place particular guidelines or policies to promote responsible use of AI as only 48% of the employers have done so.
In summary, while employees embrace the potential of AI to enhance and expand their roles, CEOs harbour concerns about its potential to automate and streamline tasks, potentially leading to a reduction in the workforce. As the AI landscape continues to evolve, navigating these differing perceptions will be crucial for organizations seeking to harmonize the integration of AI technologies with their workforce.
